Christians might argue that they are the majority within the United States but the reality is that church attendenc has been running below 50% and most Christians only attend church on major holidays. And the majority of Americans no longer consider themselves Christian. While there is growth of Hinduism/Buddhism/and "New Age" religious movements in the United Statess over the past 40+ years. The majority of Americans are actually moving away from religion in total.
Within the United States the reality is that Christians attempt to block other religious groups from enjoying the same freedoms that they enjoy. They attempt to force the theory of "Creationism" upon school children. Asking that it is taught alongside science though it clearly does not belong in a science class. They have attempted to block other religious being taught in classes, but have requested that their religion be taught openly and pretend that they are being purscuited when their religion is not being taught in public schools. In fact, Christian organizations have taken over so many hospitals in the U.S. that they actually attempt to force their religious beliefs upon patients by denying procedures and surgeries that they feel is in conflict with their religious beliefs. These are hardly the actions of just a "loving people", but they appear to the actions of an organizations that wish to force their religious views upon other people. Again these issues can easily be researched as they have been covered by the media.
Christian attendance in Europe has been estimated to be around 20%, if that, and the chruchs are currently selling land and building due to the lack of useage and projected need in the future.
I personally believe that the facts are induspitable. Christianity is a religion of conversion, that is how an obscure group of Jews that were actually cast out of Judiasm managed to survive over time. It was through conversion and this has been the foundation of christianity and its growth. While they may have the right to convert people, it is important for Hindu's to understand the rules of the game and agenda's so that the playing field is actually fair and even.
It is impossible to dispute that the Christians gave the Mayan leaders and religious leaders a choice of converting or being burned alive. They were also informed that if they converted they would not be burned alive but would have their heads cut off. Again these issues are documented and cannot be disputed. In the United States the American Indian has been denied the right to practice their religion freely for hundreds of years. Though they are actually a seperate nation, their marriages are not recognized by the United States government unless it is performed by a Christian minister. Thousands of American Indians or "tribals" were killed for not converting to Christianity and this has been only in the past three hundred years. So much for true seperation of Chruch and State, but at least it is kept in check for many people though clearly there are many victims such the American tribals.
Within India, there are Christian militants that threaten people's lives in Northern/western and northeastern India. This cannot be disputed as it has been documented fairly well. In fact, in the United States, many years ago when Christians were bombing abortion clinics, major religious leaders such as Pat Robertson and Jerry Fallwell refused to condemn the bombings and killing of innocent people. Christian leaders and groups have admitted that they are attempting to re-write Indian history that is more 'pro' Christianity and have attempted to insert that Hinduism actually comes from Christianity though there is no actual evidence to support this agenda. Attempting to persent that Hinduism is the "little brother" of Christianity that somehow lost its way.
In the U.S. now Christian yoga is being introduced. There is no Christian yoga, it is not a part of the history or tradition of Christianity. It is being called Christian Yoga because Christian leadership cannot bare the thought of spirituality being taught to the masses without their stamp of approval and influence. They also realize that their own religion is falling apart in western society and they need to attempt to hold on as long as possible while other areas are cultivated such as India. Church leaders realize that they have failed to answer the questions that many people have on a spiritual level. But Hinduism, in reality, does address many of these spiritual questions. So to address this mass exodus from Christianity "Christian Yoga" is the latest attempt. This is another area where Hinduism is being robbed by Christians. Hindu's feel that it is ok because it is yoga, but it is a first step. But yet one of our major philosophical systems is being 'raped' of its teachings and essence and no one seems to care. Once this has been accomplished what next? Vedanta? the Vedas?
While it is shocking to most Christians in western society that these types of events have been going on, the reality is that christian leaders hide these facts from their followers. I realize that these are "bitter-pills" to swallow regarding a religion that is supposed to only teach love. But upon careful/knowledgable review of history, one will find a very violent and bloody history. Christianity certainly has a right to exist and to practice their belief. The facts are the facts, they can be ignored, denied, or lied about, but the facts remain the facts and cannot be changed. I urge every person to become educated about this issue, study the history, current actions, and not propoganda. This will allow each person to make informed decisions on this issue. In my personal opinion, it is important to go into these things with our "eyes wide open" to the history, agenda, and potential problems when dealing with other religious groups.
Hindus should reclaim their rich and vibrant heritage. India has been the repository for the greatest collection of spiritual knowledge known to the world. Attempts to package Christian Yoga, tell Hindus their history is an action of groups that have found limitations within their own systems, in my opinion. The actions are motivated by fear rather than a desire to experience the truth and self-realization.
